Description
Cuts circular holes in fabric and leather when struck against a solid wood or plastic surface with a heavy hammer.
We recommend using a copper faced 1.6kg hammer see below.
Only use against wooden or plastic surface, do not strike against a metal or concrete/stone surface as this will damage the cutter.

In the end I got a great finish with the cutting tool, fixing tool and 40mm eyelets. Definitely worth the effort finding the right surface and doing a few practises before letting loose on the finished article. My curtains used really thick fabric plus insulated blackout lining. A few times I had to snip out the very last bit, no big deal. That is why I didn’t give it a 5/5. Really pleased with the tools. Excellent customer service and advice , and delivered the following day. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this tool and the company.

I made a template on squared paper first of all measuring out my eyelets and spaces between them accurately and then I drew around the centres of my 40 mm eyelets onto the paper. With the paper firmly clipped with quilters clips onto my 2 layers of wool and one of thermal lining curtain I then lined up the cutting edge of the tool on my paper template circles. Underneath my curtains I had placed a layer of cardboard on top of a layer of hardboard on top of a concrete floor. A couple of heavy hammer blows later I had perfect holes and all accurately positioned. Very happy with the tool, worked perfectly, delighted with the results.

I had a few practice runs at this but once I’d found a good firm surface (my solid floor!), and used a cutting mat and wooden board beneath for support, then the hole cutter worked perfectly with the copper/rawhide hammer.

Very pleased with my purchase. It needs a few smart strikes to get a good fix but not a fraction of the wellie needed to cut the holes. Seems to cope well with any thickness of fabric. Nice finish achieved with this piece of equipment.

Excellent product and service.
The best company I have dealt with for years.

Great cutter, cuts 40mm holes well. One word of caution, make sure you use on a hard surface, tried it on my worktop with not so good results but moved to my outside wall with the plate I purchased and it worked a treat, finished holes and grommets in 30 mins.

Having read the reviews I felt sure that purchasing the correct cutter and the copper hammer would do the job. I have followed the instructions to the finest detail & watched the video over and over again but still I do not get this cutter to cuter through any fabric or curtain buckram. Having hit the cutter over 20 times still nothing. I really want this to work as the reviews say. Sadly I cannot rate this well at the moment as I am very disappointed.

Hi Pauline
So sorry you’re having an issue with this tool, normally this is because the surface the tool is being used against is not solid enough. We will contact you directly to try and help you.

Absolutely well worth the money, brilliant tool does a very professional job, easy to use once you have had a practice run first and watched a few videos . So please we purchased this as we had to alter some very expensive curtains which the material was very thick and bulky and this made the job easy to do. Highly recommend this product. .

I was in two minds about ordering this but I’m glad I did, works a treat.

Unfortunately, the 40mm cutting tool didn’t work at all. I bought a larger size a few years ago and that one worked fine but for this job, I had no choice but to use scissors to cut the 20 holes by hand. The closing tool worked fine though.

Hi Joss, thank you for your feedback. If you’re having trouble with the tool please contact us as we can usually talk people through the process, sometimes the type and size of hammer or the surface you’re using the tool on can impact it’s performance.

I purchased this after watching the videos and reading the reviews and knowing there was technique to success. I used it once on a sheet to test against a wooden board it didn’t cut through on this go all around but I believe more hitting with the hammer and rotating will achieve a better cut – so far I haven’t used it on curtains as I had already made them with eyelet tape and this is too big to cut those , so it will a next time for me . My first attempt resulted in a splinter on the cutting edge, which I sent pictures to Chris @ Hanolex , within 5 mins he had responded and asked a couple more questions . He then aid he had someone in my area the next day and they turned up with a new tool and no quibble just some guidance on usage. I cannot fault their customer service as its when things don’t quite go right that this is the thing tat matters. Well done Chris and the team

I’m sure in the right hands this would work well but I was disappointed. Couldn’t achieve a clean cut in velvet curtains with blackout lining. Very hard work and noisy. Resorted to sharp scissors and got a cleaner, quieter result. Wish I hadn’t bought it as it’s an expensive paperweight. Punch tool to join eyelet halves also quite noisy and hard work(!) but no alternative to provide a professional finish

Great product with a speedy delivery. Ensure you use a sturdy piece of timber to use as the anvil otherwise you get a rebound effect thus not cutting through material. Finally used a piece of 6×4 oak and worked a treat. Cost effective product compared to buying made to measure with eyelets.

So far I have had a couple of practice attempts and found it straight forward to use. The delivery was prompt and communication excellent.
The job I have is for several pairs of curtains, 60 eyelets in total so I think my husband will need to help because it does take a lot of upper body strength to use.

I purchased the hole cutter, the eyelet tool, eyelets and mallet; I needed to make 3 sets of large eyelet curtains and originally phoned Hanolex to cost out having the eyelets put in by them but diy turned out to be the cheaper option in my case (the advice from the company on this was practical, sensible and much appreciated). They were delivered very promptly, were of excellent quality and worked very well to give a professional finish. They did take some good clean strikes of the mallet (worth getting we felt as its structure makes it suited to this particular job) to get a neat closure of the eyelet and we took care to do it on a surface that would not be damaged but we were really impressed by the overall outcome and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend highly.

Speedy delivery, and a good very solid piece of kit. Really impressed. This is a heavy solid reliable hand tool. Great.

Very good tool for cutting out eyelets, it easily went through the heavy fabric, lining, buckram and the tea towel and dented the wood I was resting on. I didn’t need to hit it very hard after the first one! I love it

Great tool, have used it on a thick inter-lined curtain, makes it much easier then cutting through the fabric with scissors! very fast delivery and great customer service!

I haven’t used it on very thick fabric yet but normal weight curtain fabric was fine. Again great delivery service

Very prompt delivery. I have not used it yet. Before ordering my husband assured me that I could cut the eyelet holes with scissors. This was confirmed in instruction leaflets but I am sure that it will be much easier with this tool and provide a perfect finish. We shall see. I hope to fit the eyelets this weekend.
